DAWN GOLDEN
For School Director
My name is Dawn Golden, and I am running for School Board Director for the Penn Hills School District. I have been a resident of the district and a taxpayer for approximately 18 years. I have two children who currently attend Penn Hills High School and two who graduated from the district in 2021. I have witnessed and understood the real challenges and opportunities within our district, and I am ready to bring my experience and leadership to the school board.
My educational background includes a bachelor's degree and a master’s degree in criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, as well as a master’s in education for School Counseling from the University of Pittsburgh. I am a certified School Counselor, K-12, Principal K-12 and hold a Superintendent Letter of Eligibility. I am currently in the dissertation phase of earning my Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Point Park University.
Currently, I serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services for the Pittsburgh Public School District. Prior to my current position, I served as the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Pupil Personnel for the Penn Hills School District. In addition to these roles, I previously served as the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, principal, assistant principal, and school counselor. Each of these roles has allowed me to grow not only as an educator and advocate but also as a leader. I have worked closely with students, families, and educators to improve student outcomes. I understand the complexities of school systems and the importance of implementing policies that support academic achievement, equity, and student well-being.
My service to youth and families extends beyond my professional background and obligations. As a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, where I was the past vice president, a delegate for the National Pan Hellenic Council, member of the Greater Pittsburgh Area Mad Dad’s Mom’s Division, member of Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) and Elite Corvettes of Pittsburgh, I engage in community service with organizations that advocate for better education, stronger family advocacy and student success throughout the greater Pittsburgh area.
While I may not come from a political background, I know how to lead, make hard and unfavorable decisions, and get results. My career has always been about solving problems, advocating for students and families, and holding systems of accountability. My desire to run for the school board is to address the district’s academic challenges, advocate for equitable opportunities for students, and support and engage parents, families, and the community at large. My vision is to create schools where we address the needs of the whole child to ensure all students can thrive, our educators are supported by ensuring they have the necessary resources to support our students, and finally, to ensure every family is engaged. I have a career of being on the front line as an educator, parent, and member of the community. This is not about politics for me; it is about purpose and passion, and I am ready to bring focus, integrity, and commitment to the work of the school board.
I look forward to earning your support as we work together to build a Penn Hills School District and community for all students and families.
